Yearling purchase Maxim Rate (Exchange Rate) wins the Grade 3 Senorita Stakes at Santa Anita for Simon Callaghan and owners Slam Dunk Racing.
Having been an unlucky second in Grade 3 company on her last start over 1m2f, the daughter of Exchange Rate was dropped back in trip to a mile here and was given a positive ride by jockey Kent DesOrmeaux. She travelled powerfully throughout and forged her way to the front on the home turn before asserting to win by half a length.
After the race jockey DesOrmeaux said ” I watched the tape of her run in the Grade 3 Providencia Stakes last time, and you could see she was very unlucky to lose, and when Lady Prancealot came to us at the eighth pole, she had to find two more gears, I think the pressure from the other horses helped her progress”.
Trainer Callaghan added, “I thought she’d be hard to beat after her last race. She got the trip we expected today, and cutting back to a mile wasn’t a concern.”
A step up in grade looks to be on the card now for this exciting filly. To discuss potential purchases please do not hesitate to contact us, and for a list of upcoming sales click the link below.
