Yearling purchase King Ottokar (Motivator) wins the Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup British EBF Conditions Stakes (Plus 10 Race) in impressive style at Newbury for owner Mrs Susan Roy and trainer Charlie Fellowes.
The colt was purchased for €60,000 at the Arqana August Yearling Sale in 2017 with a view to being re-sold at the breeze up sales. He was re-offered at the Arqana breeze up in May 2018 and proved to be a hugely successful pinhook, selling to Charlie Gordon Watson for €280,000.
Suited by this easy ground, he picked up very nicely to lead and won in some comfort, and looks a smart middle-distance prospect.
After the race trainer Fellowes said ”We came here thinking if we finished in the first four with King Ottokar it’d be a good result. We felt he’d come on for the run and thought it was a pretty hot race. The old Racing Post Trophy was just too much too soon for him and he wasn’t experienced enough. He relishes cut in the ground, so that’s something to think about going forward. He’s in all of the big races and will have a run in a trial next. He’s in the Dante, but if we’re thinking about Epsom, which the owner would love, we could go to somewhere like Chester, where you can get cut. It might just make him think as he’s a big horse. It’d be the Dee at Chester as he’s not short of toe.”
