New Mandate (New Bay) wins the Group 2 Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket for Ralph Beckett and owner Mr Marc Chan.
Having demonstrated his battling abilities when squeezing through a tight gap to land a Listed race at Doncaster last time out, the New Bay gelding was forced to dig deep again before emerging victorious.
Despite Ontario throwing down a late challenge, he could not find a way past New Mandate and Frankie Dettori with three-quarters of a length separating the pair at the post.
After the race Beckett said: “I was always surprised he could do it at seven really, given his pedigree and so on. It is extraordinary I managed to get him beaten twice in maidens. The first time out I hadn’t done enough with him really and I suddenly realised that afterwards. We will see where we go from here. Obviously he can’t run in anything worthwhile in the spring, so we have to cut our cloth this autumn. We will have a discussion about the Bredeers’ Cup Juvenile Turf. It has been great.”
Dettori added “They went slow and I had to kick earlier than I wanted to, but he’s a very good horse and has gears a mile is spot on at the moment.”
New Mandate was purchased for €35,000 from the 2019 Arqana August Yearling Sale as part of our first round of buys for The Lucra Partnership, before being sold privately after his win at Sandown to new owner Mark Chan.
The Lucra Partnership represents a wonderful opportunity to become involved in racehorse ownership, meet new people and hopefully enjoy a return on investment in the process.
The market for middle distance/staying horses has become increasingly strong, thanks to an International thirst for European bloodstock, backed up by a strong domestic National Hunt market.
For the 2021 season we have formed a second partnership ‘Lucra II’ which will allow new investors the opportunity to capitalise on the resale potential that this type of horse offers. We are currently working hard to recruit the next batch of young horses that will make up next years Lucra team.
Please do not hesitate to contact us directly for any information that you may require, or to just have a chat about the partnership in more detail.
