Whiskey Pete (Night Of Thunder) wins nicely at York on handicap debut for Ralph Beckett and owners Anthony Ramsden, Nigel Skinner & Ron Hull.
Having been purchased on behalf of connections at the Craven Breeze Up Sales earlier this year, Whiskey Pete had put up three very solid efforts in defeat to this point, placing on each occasion and earning a mark of 86. He broke his maiden nicely here in a what looked a strong nursery on paper and looks a horse with the potential to go on to better things next year.
Positioned just off the leaders early, rider Hector Crouch pushed the button approaching the two furlong marker and his mount stuck on nicely to win. After the race Crouch said ” It was testing and we were scratching our heads in the final stages as we hadn’t got the job done yet, fortunately he got his head in front. I thought I was going to win easily two furlongs out, but he was waiting the whole last furlong and went away when one came to him”.
