Pulitzer (Kodiac) wins the 32 Red EBF Fillies Novice Stakes at Haydock for Hugo Palmer and owners The Gredley’s.
Purchased for 130,000GNS at Book 1 of the 2016 Tattersalls October Yearling Sales, the daughter of Tally Ho Stud flagbearer Kodiac was having her third start here having finished third in a strong Goodwood Maiden last time out behind susequent Lowther winner Threading.
A well backed favourite before the off and ridden by Josephine Gordon, she was prominent throughout and showed a pleasing change of gear to stay on and win with a little in hand by 3/4 of a length.
After the race Gordon said ” She settled well today and she won quite comfortably. She is going to improve while she is learning to do things the right way”.
Trainer Palmer added ” She ran in a good maiden at the July Meeting at Newmarket and ran OK on her debut, but we were a bit disappointed and when she came back, she was in season. She was probably still a bit weak when she was third behind Threading and on today’s performance, she should have been second there, she is out of a Black Sam Bellamy mare and while I’m not saying she will stay, she will take a little bit of time to reach her peak”.
