Starboy (Camacho) wins for the third time in his last four starts for George Scott and Excel Racing taking the Fly London Southend Airport To Venice Handicap (Class 4) at Newmarket.
The gelding has shown himself to have a great attitude this season, and has improved with every run. He tracked the leaders here before being ridden to challenge 2 furlongs from home, he stayed on strongly under Jason Watson to win handily by 2 1/4 lengths. This win takes his career record to 4 wins from 15 starts, with 3 placed efforts also to his name. Starboy was purchased as a yearling for £52,000 at the 2016 Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale.
Starboy runs in the colours of the Excel Racing Syndicate of which owner Keith Breen is a major shareholder and earlier in the day Mr Breen almost had another winner, this time at Ascot in the shape of £50,000 EBS yearling purchase Crantock Bay (Havana Gold), whom he owns outright.
The colt, who was also sourced at the Goffs UK Premier sale, was having his first start in this 6 furlong Class 2 Maiden and ran with huge credit, especially after having met trouble in running very early in the race. He was ridden by champion jockey Silvestre De Sousa and despite being detached early on, he moved powerfully into contention and in the end was narrowly denied by a neck. This was a very encouraging start for the George Scott trained colt and he looks the type that will be winning races before long.
